Prevent Dryness Instead Of Treating It.

Time and time again I hear clients tell me that their hair is dry, they want it long, they want it to look like a Pantene comercial. And I simply respond ‘Treat it better”. There seems to be a firm belief that you can fry the shit out of your hair, over wash it with a crappy shampoo, not trim enough off at haircut time, rip through your hair with a brush, but as long as you use a good conditioner it’ll all be fine. Well bitches I’m here to tell you that you are dead wrong. It’s a simple fact, that the hair that grows out of your head is what you get, damage it and it stays damaged. There is no connection to the body to heal it. Think about it this way; if you have chapped lips you put on a lip balm which adds some moisture but what it really does is put a barrier between your lips and the environment, which lets your layers under the dry skin rejuvenate,  you shed off the dry skin,  and have moist lips. Right? Well your hair does not do that. There is no repairing your hair. Reconstructive conditioners can fill in the gaps of the cuticle layer, coat the hair, and make it feel better. The only thing is these are temporary, they hold the ends together a little longer but eventually it all washes away. Some do last longer than others.  The trick is you really do not want to cause anymore split ends then you need to. Whether you want long hair or really soft, shiny hair, you need to be good to your hair. Do not over wash your hair, 3 times a week is the most anyone should wash. If you can’t deal with a day off of shampoo then long hair is not for you, it’s really that simple. If you do not have time to gently comb your hair, then cut the shit off,  done and done. If you can not afford a great shampoo and conditioner than stop doing so many highlights. (When getting your hair color done, shampoos, conditioners,  and a mask should be factored into your budget.) I know this post is going to piss a lot of people off but the time of sugar-coating it has ended. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again cause it’s the truth, your hair is your most important accessory and should be put on the top of your fashion/beauty list. Don’t cheap on your hair to buy those shoes. Sure we’ll be impressed when we look down but we only looked down cause we were scared of you snacky hair. Split straggly ends and a Louboutin heels are not a winning combination.

A great Shampoo for normal hair types is the Shu Uemura Full Shimmer Shampoo and I would follow with the matching Shu Uemura Full Shimmer Conditioner, which you should always comb through. See  my Comb Cautiously post.
